Description: We will explore a typical Piedmont floodplain forest for a couple of hours, identifying overstory trees, midstory and shrubby plants comprising this ecosystem.
Location & Directions: US-41 at Chattahoochee River. Park entrance is just north of bridge, park in main parking lot.
Meet At: 1:30pm Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, – West Palisades, kiosk near picnic area. Park address: 3444 Cobb Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia 30339.
Bathroom Facilities: Restrooms and drinking fountains.
Walking Difficulty: Easy; we will mostly stick to trails on the Chattahoochee River floodplain, walking about a mile. Walking shoes /hiking boots are recommended.
Bring: The Google Lens app on your smartphone will aid with tree identifications, or a tree identification book if you have one (Trees of Georgia and Adjacent States by Brown and Kirkman is recommended).
