Field Trip Leader: Carol Schneier
Description: We will explore typical Piedmont mixed deciduous forest for a couple of hours, identifying overstory trees, midstory and shrubby plants comprising this ecosystem, as well as discussing its dynamics over time.
Location & Directions: I-75 to I-285 East. Take exit #24 and go North on Riverside Dr. to Johnson Ferry Rd. Turn NW (left), cross the river travel 1.8 mi. to Lower Roswell Rd. Turn Right and go 2.25 miles to the park entrance on the Right. Turn south (right) into parking lot.
Meet At: 1:30pm Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area – Gold Branch parking area. Park address: 6156 Lower Roswell Rd. Marietta, 30068. There is a $5 daily use fee, unless you have a Senior or Annual Pass.
Bathroom Facilities: None.
Walking Difficulty: Easy; we will mostly stick to slightly rolling trails about 0.5 mi (1 mi round trip). Walking shoes/hiking boots are recommended.
Bring: iNaturalist or the Google Lens app on your smartphone will aid with plant identifications.
