Description: We will start the day heading east on HWY 82 and stop at interesting locations along the road until we reach Nahunta. From intersection in Nahunta, we will take GA 301 south toward to Folkston. We will stop at the night-flowering wild petunia site to see what is there in late summer and make any other interesting stops between there and Folkston. From Folkston, we would return to Waycross via HWY 1. If anyone is interested, we can continue to a Sarracenia flava bog west of Waycross to close out the day.
We should see multiple specimens of pine lily (Lilium catesbaei), bog cheetos (Senega lutea), slender ironweed (Vernonia angustifolia var. angustifolia), red root (Lachnanthes caroliniana), and other late summer bloomers.
Location and Directions: Take I-75 south to US 82. Take US 82 east to Waycross. In Waycross, turn south on US 1 and Lowe’s will be left approximately 1.25 miles after the turn.
Meet at: Hampton Inn Waycross
Bring: Lunch to eat on the road, water, bug spray, & shoes you do not mind getting muddy.
