Instructor:   Dr Richard Carter, Valdosta State University

Description:  In this workshop, you will use keys to identify local plant species of the Coastal Plain. Dr. Richard Carter of Valdosta State University, who teaches various botany courses and is the VSU Herbarium Curator, will bring an assortment of fresh materials of locally occurring native and naturalized plants for participants to dissect, analyze, and key, with emphasis on angiosperm diversity. This workshop is offered in collaboration with the Coastal Plain Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society.

Location & Directions:   Gaskins Forest Education Center, 3359 Moore Sawmill Rd., Alapaha GA 31622.  From Alapaha, head south on GA 129; turn left on Brunswick St. which becomes Moore Sawmill Rd.; continue 3.3 miles. Difficulty:   This event is aimed at plant enthusiasts rather than botanists.

Bring:   Lunch, snacks, & water.  Bring hand lens and, if you have one, a copy of Radford’s Manual of the Vascular Flora of the Carolinas.
