Description:   This is an exploratory hike of Yonah Mountain, a piedmont monadnock with interesting geology (biotitic gneiss/ mica schist/ amphibolite).  This mountain is known for the disjunct occurrence of several western species of plants, and has a rich diversity of plants including piedmont and high elevation southern Appalachian endemics that reach their southernmost limit at this site. 

Location & Directions:   From downtown Cleveland, Georgia, go north 0.3 mile on Highway 129. Turn right onto Georgia Highway 74 and go 2.2 miles. Turn right on Tom Bell Road and go 0.9 mile and take the 2nd right turn onto Chambers Road.  Go 0.7 mile and turn right on Forest Service Road 323. Go 0.3 mile to the trailhead parking lot.

Meet At:   The parking area for Yonah Mountain, 1900 Chambers Road, Cleveland, GA. 

Bathroom Facilities:   None.

Walking Difficulty:   This hike is difficult.

Bring:   Lunch, snacks, & lots of water.  Remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes.  Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level.  You may wish to bring binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera.
