Description: We will explore a meadow along a pipeline right-of-way near the Chattahoochee River.
Location & Directions: I-285 Exit 24, North on Riverside Dr NW about 2.25 mi; Left on Johnson Ferry Rd NW; 0.2 mi to Left on Columns Drive SE; then 2.3 mi to dead end at the parking lot.
Meet At: 1:30pm Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area – Cochran Shoals unit, Columns Drive parking area. Park address: 3850 Columns Dr SE. Marietta, GA 30067. There is a $5 daily use fee, unless you have a Senior or Annual Pass.
Bathroom Facilities: At the parking lot.
Walking Difficulty: Easy; we will hike about 0.5 mile (1 mile round trip) on a broad flat trail identifying wildflowers and trees near a pipeline along the Chattahoochee River. Walking shoes/hiking boots are recommended.
Bring: iNaturalist or the Google Lens app on your smartphone will aid with plant identifications.
