Field Trip Leader:  Philip Bouchard

Description:  This field trip features a loop hike on the Ravine Loop Trail into a beautiful creek valley in a hardwood forest, on a mix of paved and unpaved trails.  We can expect to see a variety of spring ephemerals, including Bloodroot, Rue Anemone, Heartleaf, Woodland Violet, Foamflower,  May Apple, and several others.  (I intend to send out a list of wildflowers currently in bloom about 5 days before the field trip.)  The hike into and out of the valley will take us through several types of woodland habitat.

Location & Directions:  The Fence Road Entry to Little Mulberry Park is located 4.5 miles north of downtown Dacula on Fence Road.  Depending upon where you come from, you might approach the area from I-85 (which passes north of the park) or US-29 (which passes south of the park).  In your map program, be sure to specify the destination as the Fence Road Entrance.  If you type “Little Mulberry Park” as your destination, then you will probably end up on the wrong side of the park.

Meet At:  We will gather near the restrooms in the parking lot on the south side of the park, known as the Fence Road Entry (not the main parking lot on the north side of the park).

Bathroom Facilities:  By the parking lot.

Walking Difficulty:  This hike is moderate in difficulty, with a walking distance of 3 miles, including several long but moderate slopes.

Bring:  Water, snacks.  Remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.  Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level.  You may want to bring binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera.
