State Park entry fee required ($10.00 or state park annual pass).  Note the federal pass does not provide entry into state parks.

Field Trip Leader:   Rich Reaves

Description:    We will walk the trail to the top of the falls and then come down the steps to view the early spring wildflowers including Virginia bluebells, toothworts, bloodroot, green violet, Trillium cuneatum, Amicalola trillium, and others.

Location and Directions:   There are many ways to get to this park.  Generally easiest way from Atlanta is 400 to GA 136.  West (left) on 136 to GA 183.  Then, northwest (right) on GA 183 to GA 52 and east (right) on GA 52 to the park.

Meet At:    We will meet at one of the group picnic shelters near the visitor center.  I will email the specific shelter to registered participants once I have it reserved.

Bathroom Facilities:   At the visitor center, we will walk past the visitor center to start up the trail but recommend you arrive early enough to deal with restroom requirements before we begin.

Walking Difficulty:   Rated as moderate due to the elevation gain, number of stairs on the way down and occasional steep sections of trail.  Obviously, there will be substantial elevation gain and loss walking to the top of the falls and back down.

Bring:   Lunch, snacks, & water.  Remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes.  Dress in layers so that you can adjust to temperature changes and your activity level.  You may wish to bring binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera.
