This topic came up in discussion at the Pilgrimage, so I thought I would put this item out there for any interested persons.  There is a recently published article from Plant Disease on the red bay wilt.  Not surprisingly, this is another problem that stems from exotic species.  The article title and authors and the journal issue are provided below.  You can obtain an electronic copy of the article from the US Forest Service Southern Research Station Publication Website:

A fungal symbiont of the redbay ambrosia beetle causes a lethal wilt in redbay and other Lauraceae in the Southeastern United States
From:  Plant Disease. 92(2): 215-224, published in 2008.
The authors are:  Fraedrich. S.W.; Harrington, T.C.; Rabaglia, R.J.; Ulyshen, M.D.; Mayfield, A.E.; Hanula, J.L.; Eickwort, J.M.; and Miller, D.R.
