This trail is one of the top wildflower trails in the Southeast, and, in fact, the whole country.  Many plants,  such as Virginia bluebells, yellow wood poppy, and bent trillium are found in abundance here but rarely found elsewhere in the state.   We also should see literally dozens of other early spring wildflowers, such as Dutchmans Breeches, Bishops Cap, pennywort, walking fern, and wood spurge, among many others.  In addition to the boardwalk , we will explore the surrounding woods and, optionally, take a moderate walk up to the waterfalls on Pocket Branch.  After lunch in the parking lot, we will drive to a little known near-by location to look for the rare and beautiful Twin Leaf.
