Sunday, March 23, 2014 Lesser Celandine-Ranunculus ficaria Eradication at Sosebee Cove, Union County
Posted under: North Georgia .
Meet: 10:00 am Meet at the parking area at Sosebee Cove.
NOTE: You must register in advance with the leader. (Fall Back date of Saturday, April 5 if the plant is not up on the 23rd)
Description: Two years ago, we made an initial effort at controlling this pernicious weed, which has become established around the large Buckeye tree, where it was displacing trout lilies and Dutchman’s breeches. We did not get it all (you never do in one try), and it is time to follow up. I saw several plants last year, but had decided to let the area rest from disturbance. Now is time to strike again. After we are done, we can enjoy the early bloomers at the cove.
Directions: From Dahlonega, take GA Hwy 60 to Suches. At Suches, take GA Hwy 180 East for about 5 miles to Sosebee Cove. The parking area is downhill and east of Wolfpen Gap.
Parking: There is parking on both sides of the road, but it is limited. Carpooling is encouraged.
Facilities: Only those offered by nature – plenty of trees, but not much undergrowth early in the year.
Walking: Easy on trails, but we will be on knees to get the little bugger during the eradication.
Bring: Lunch, water. I will provide garbage bags for proper disposal of the removed material.
